Shiv Chalisa is a stuti made from 40 verses that explain the glory of Lord Shiva. Each verse of prayer explain the perfection of Mahadev and greatness of them.

It starts by pray to Ganesha by "Jay Ganesh Girija" because Shri Ganesha has the boon of worshipped first in any Pooja. When we start reading, first remember Lord Ganesha to stop obstacles.

Shiv Chalisa has such an effect that insanely pushes energy in our body. Positive energy starts to flows and we experience divine power. Miracles happen in a difficult stage of life when no rays of hope seem.

Lord Shiva cares about his devotee too much that they stop bad luck and negative energy affecting life.

Benefits of Shiv Chalisa

Chanting Shiv Chalisa is so powerful that is impossible to explain. I write previously about the effect of Om Namah Shivay, various Mahadev Mantras, and various other prayers but stuti and prayer of Mahadev have infinite benefits that never completely explainable. Still I try to give here some other effects to know it's miracles.

First, two verses of Shiv Chalisa explain it's power.

As one verse says,

Dhup Dip nevedya chadhavai,
Shankara sanmukh path Sunavai,
Janm janm ke Paap nasavai,
Antavas Shivpur ko pavai

Meaning is:

One who provide incense, Dip (Indian lamp) and Prasadam to Lord Shiva and chant Shiva Chalisa in front of them, will free from sins of many births. When his life ends, he goes to Shivloka, a place of Lord Shiva.

Soul will be immersed in bliss because it is near to God Mahadev. The purpose of the soul is completed, no birth will he take again.

Because Lord Shiva happy on him, one achieves material achievements and wealth.

As other verses say,

Nitya nem Kari Prata hi,
path Karo chalish,
Tum meri manokamana,
purn karaho Jagdish

which means,

One who reads this prayer every day in the morning, say to Lord Shiva that you are only my wish, request them to fulfill, will get the fulfillment of wishes and real peace.

Because he asks nothing for him, he requests Mahadev's nearness. Lord Shiva pleased by a devotion which is without any expectations.

They fulfill wishes without even asking. Lord Shiva gives him success, a long life with good health and protection.

Graha problems can't touch him, he will safe from all dangers.

God always does the welfare of true devotee, stops to fall him in traps and, gives him what truly good.

By the power of this prayer, one get lots of other benefits like:

One becomes aware toward his life, his food; he will take care about it. It will results in a healthy life, the diseases free life.

Invaluable time is used in a place where the end is Kailasa, Lord Rudra, Mahadev.

Life becomes free from attachment. Our lives filled with good karma and works become better.

Things happen unexpectedly, in a way that helps us seem like there is the blessing of Lord Shiva.

Stresses will be reduced and the mind stays stable even in difficult situations.

Ganesha, Lord Shiva's son, not let come to any obstacles, obstacle removed even without touching devotee.

Aura improved, one sees a person more bright, more brilliant, more positive after the recitation of this prayer.

Breathing can be controlled because the chanting of divine prayer helps to control the mind. The energy of the body spends on the right thing, the thing that will help in the future, that will give the real purpose of the soul.

Spiritual power awakens, one can do things which is like unbelievable. One can read minds, know thinking of others. One can remember whole books by only one time of reading. One can make his body like a fly in the air.

Everything happens good for him like world change situations to helps him.

Thoughts become holy, disturbance in the brain will be cured.

God takes care of him and not let enter problems or harmful events.

One even feels that God saves him from accidents and dangers.

One becomes fearlessness because he is in the feet of Mahadev, the world's creator and destroyer. How anyone can create a problem? God is always with a true devotee, his care is taken by infinite Lord Mahakal.

One will become Famous, everyone knows him because by chanting prayer he has good qualities that everyone likes.

By reading it, Devotion will increase, which leads to better chanting, this cycle continues, at one moment, Lord Shiva be pleased on you, give many blessing.

One secured from an unnatural death. Lord Shiva also called Mahakal, save devotee from death. By the blessing of Lord Shiva, Sage Markendaya save from Yama, the Lord of death. Devotees are protected by the creator of the Universe.

The soul and body become divine which frees from sins, therefore go to heaven and in Shivloka. One can stop worrying about his future, his next birth because Shiv Chalisa solve any kind of problem.

The devotion of Mahadev is priceless, it is invaluable, incomparable. Such devotion and Bhakti achieved by chanting Shiv Chalisa. Whenever you read this stuti, God's blessings are on you and one can do Bhakti of them when Shiva's blessing is on us. By true Devotion, life moves toward true achievement which never comes by following the material world's things.

Lord Shiva reduce/remove Curse. Lord Shiva love devotee so much that one who remember them with true heart, no problem stay in life. They remove all problems just by praying them. They even remove the curse of Moon (Chandra) who has a curse of decay.

One able to do difficult work because his mind is developed in such a way that he can insanely focus on a thing.

A devotee who chants this prayer will dive into true peace, a moment that never ends, by experience which nothing remains for him. The soul does not take birth again because he is with Lord Shiva in Shiva Loka.

He becomes aware of reality. By singing it, one knows about the illusion of the material world, feels that God is eternal, can pray with devotion, true heart.

By chanting it, we can better know about Shiva. In Shiv Chalisa, various qualities of Mahadev is explained. In one verse event about Vishnu getting Sudarshana chakra is given.

As said "Dhan nirdhan ko det sadai", means One who is poor, who has not any money, gets money by the blessing of Mahadev.

Our curiosity increase to know more about God. We want to chant more mantras, want to read more about Shiva.

One becomes kind. He wants to help other people who have problems.

We better understand the other's problems. In Mahashivratri's story, one person is described who kills an animal but in a day of Shivratri, he gives water to Shivlingam by which he forgives deer.

How to read Shiv Chalisa?

Remember Lord Shiva. Keep a photo of them in front of you. Make mind free from material thoughts. Clean yourself completely.

• If you have never read it previously then first watch a video and learn words with meaning. Try to pronounce properly, if mistakes happen then it is ok but with more chanting, it will be reduced.
• If your family members or friend is Mahadev devotee, then learn it from them. This way help to experience it's power because family member acts as a spiritual master.
• At the reading time, let your mind concentrated on each word. Chant at the place where there is less distraction.
• If mind not focused, read it aloud. Sing it as it let not mind to distract.
• First remember Shree Ganesha, as a son of Lord Shiva, one who removes problems from the life of a devotee.
• If you know meditation then meditate before reading, it will give more effect, you will fast reveal the power of this miraculous prayer.
• Know the meaning of Shiv Chalisa, while you read, recall meaning with every word. It will increase concentration in reading.

Start chanting prayer, dive into divinity and move towards the state to happiness, the perfect one.

After Long term recitation, you may feel that Lord Shiva near to you...

...and get an indescribable experience.

How many times to chant?

For material things like wealth, marriage,  read 11 times every day. It may take around half an hour but you see how everything automatically happens well.

If you have not enough time or you are beginner, chant 3 times or 5 times. Be sure to recite daily without missing.

Remember that the most important thing is Devotion, you need faith in God with continuous reading of prayer.

To achieve nearness to God, chant Shiv Chalisa as many times as possible, without counting. Read with devotion and think only Lord Shiva in every single moment.

No time should waste on material things. Make your day dedicated to Lord Shiva, whenever you have time, imagine Mahadev and chant Shiv Chalisa or mantras of Shiva.

Make one day in which you chant it 108 times, it may take 2-4 hours but God Shiva will very impressed on you, you go to a way which ends to meet Lord Rudra.

Time to chant

While there are no restrictions on time, chanting in Brahmamuhurt, the time around 4-5 AM, is best. This is the time where we wake up and the mind is almost free from any thoughts.

Concentration will be more at this time and you achieve a quick effect. The evening is also a good time for chanting when aarti finished or started.

The night time before sleeping is also good because reading Shiv Chalisa at night brings good sleep and you get rid of bad dreams.

In Mahashivratri, read it 5 times or 11 times in the night with other mantras and worship procedure. Worship in this night give many times more effects, Lord Shiva pleased on even hunter who awake the whole night and free deer. Read it this day and night in front of Shivling and, meditate God Shiva.

On Monday, read Shiv Chalisa a minimum 5 times in the morning at the temple of Lord Shiva and request them to give devotion.

Place to chant

Temple is great because the atmosphere there is spiritual, free from the material world.

Reading spiritual mantras in the temple is more effective because there is a holy atmosphere, an idol of God is near us. In Shiva Purana, one story about Ghushmeshwar Jyotirlinga in which a devotee pray to Shiva and Lord Shiva listens to his every word. The same can happen with us if we chant Shiv Chalisa with concentration and surrender to Mahadev.

Reading Lord Shiv Chalisa below the Bliva Patra tree has also great significance. In Shiv Puran, there is one chapter about Bliva Patra and how Lord Shiva please if one reads a book of them below the Bilva tree. So, if there is a tree of Bilva Patra near home, read Shiv Chalisa there at the time of the procedure of worship.

There are no restrictions given about places. You can read Shiv Chalisa at home in a worship place.

It is better if the place has silence, free from distractions and disturbance because we can concentrate easily on Shiva.

Also as there are no restrictions, we can also read it while walking or before eating. After sufficient reading, one can remember complete Shiv Chalisa.

And Lord Shiva is mercy that they will forgive mistakes of a devotee. If you do any mistakes, request forgiveness from them, they will not become angry, nor give any harmful effects. Lord Shiva only does best to his devotees.
