What is Shiva Sahasranaam?
Shiv Sahasranama is part of ling purana that is 1008 names of Lord Shiva which is chanted by Shri Vishnu.
By chanting Shiv Sahastra Naam of Mahadev, Shri Vishnu get Sudarshan chakra.
It start from name "Bhav" which mean one who start and create universe, protect all. Names of Shiva ends with "Sarva satvavlamban".
There is some name repeating in Sahasra Namavali but it is not consider as repeating because meaning of each name is different.

Lord Vishnu gives lotus to Shivlingam with each name. Once due to the divine play of Shiva, one lotus is missing. While Lord Vishnu speak last name "Sarvasatvaavalamban", they don't find lotus. They see around but nowhere is one lotus. As Shri Vishnu is a great devotee of Shiva, they give their eye as a lotus on Shivling while speaking the last name. By seeing Hari in such a condition, Lord Shiva pleased and appear in front of them. Lord Shiva gives Sudarshana Chakra and eye also comes back.
What is ling purana?
Ling Purana is spiritual book for God Shiva and related events, historical events and to understand the Lord.
It is a granth in which detailed information on Mahadev, Shivlingam, worship, prayer and other spiritual knowledge.
Also details about Krishna, Jalandhar and Ganesha is in book. Puran describe all types of rules and history, a devotee want to know.
In the adhyay about Lingam, Prayer of Shiva and various slokas is explained. Lingastakam is one of the stotram which is in Hindi version of Puran.
As the Shiva Puran discuss stories and events of Shiva, Ling Puran discuss some unknown and rare stories. One lesser known event is story about how Narad get his ability to play Vinas.
Who compiled Ling Purana?
Ling Purana is compiled by Shree Vedvyasa. It is eleventh Puran, first one is Brahmapurana.
Vyasa compiled total 18 Puranas which involve Shiva Purana and Vishnu Purana.

There are 11 thousands verses which is in Sanskrit language.

There are major two parts in which it divided.
1. Purva part

First part include details of temple, avatars of Mahadev, worship, history of Tripurasura and, other major rules and events.
Second part start from characteristics of devotee. History of Narada and bird is explained. In one Adhyay, answer to power of reciting Mahamrityunjay Mantra explained in details.
